ABC+ Horse Mackerel in Bravos Sauce
This bravo sauce is made mainly from red pepper and has a slight kick of heat to it.
The horse mackerel are small skin on, bone in whole fish that you can eat entirely (head and insides have been removed).
During our initial tasting, this started out as the unassuming tin. It didn’t seem much different from other horse mackerel I’ve had. But somehow, this was the tin that I kept going back to again and again. And obvi, the sauce is perfect for dunking bread in after the fish is all eaten up.
About ABC+:
ABC+ is the newest addition to the Jose Gourmet family of conservas coming out of Portugal. This line is very small production (smallest cannery in the world), and is pushing the boundaries of tinned fish by specializing in sauces that we don’t normally see in the tinned fish world. They opened their own cannery in Northern Portugal so they could do R&D and develop these unique parirings, and we are so stoked to carry these!
What’s unique:
Round tins to keep pieces of larger fish like trout more intact (wait until you see how beautiful the trout is with the skin on).
The concept is this - incredible fish in incredible sauces. FIRST - The colored dot on the box corresponds to a sauce, for example a yellow dot is their curry sauce (my current fave). Every box with a yellow dot will be some type of fish in curry sauce. SECOND - The shape on the front of the box corrresponds to the type of fish, for example the whale tale in the shape of the letter T is for Truta (Trout). So all boxes that have the T are trout and depending on the color of the dot you know the sauce. “ABC+” means find the letter plus find the dot.
Bonus points if you speak Portuguese since the letters align with that spelling of the word! Cheat sheet: B = Bacalhau which is salt cod, and C = Carapaus which is Horse Mackerel.
Ingredients: Horse Mackerel, Bravo Sauce (Rapeseed Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Peppers, Garlic, Chili Pepper. Water, Vinegar, Salt, Modified Starch, Mustard, Lemon Juice, Antioxidant, and Paprika Extract), Salt
Net wt: 120g
