When I talk about highlighting brands that are focused on sustainable fishing & top top quality product, Ramon Pena is at the top of that list. In operation since 1920, they hold allll of the certifications to prove how well they are doing the work (MSC, IFS, BRC and more).

Their products come from the Galician estuaries, the richest and most highly regarded fishing area in Spain and the Cantabrian Sea. Click here to see their website and all that they do.

They produce 2 lines (Gold & Silver) and I am choosing to bring you the Gold line with their highest quality product, like these horse mackerel in olive oil.

Horse mackerel and not actually mackerel, they are part of the jack family of fish.

These horse mackerel are skin on and bone in, so if you are someone who is not down with the spine/scales I would skip this one (you will be missing out though!)

If you are still with me, let me talk about the unique look of these horse mackerel. When you pop the tin you will notice each fish has this line that looks like a zipper on its side. These are called scutes and they are similar to a scale. Completely edible and full of calcium, you can eat them or they are also super easily scraped off.

The flavor of this meat and the quality of the olive oil that these live in make these a special treat.

Ingredients: Horse Mackerel, Olive Oil, Salt

Net wt: 130g
